Christchurch Doubles

There is no doubt the highlight for the club in February was our Christchurch Doubles

tournament.

The tournament attracted 44 teams over 11 divisions with players from Greymouth,

Blenheim, Kaikoura and the wider Canterbury region.

This year the club was lucky enough to have secured over $2500 worth of sponsored

prizes which were given out as spot prizes.

The tournament even had a Friday fancy dress theme which really added to the

tournament.

I want to acknowledge Lawrence Skurr for another outstanding job as tournament director,

with help from Phil Tough and Greg Atkins – well done team.

Thursday Pennant(Singles & Doubles)

This is a great way to meet new players and get some great games.

The aim of this competition is to be fun, social, getting to know club members and having great games alongside similar graded players. We will have doubles court or courts running as well as the normal singles or 3 on a court. You need to let me know if you want to play doubles or singles or don’t mind both upon entering.

Cost is $30 per club member, non-club members pay a pennant fee of $30 plus $30 (total $60) to play round. Please note the $30 goes to the club. These payments are due within the first 2 weeks of play. The money is used for balls and weekly suppers which we encourage players to stay for. There are normally 2 rounds of suppers – approx. 7.45pm and 8.45pm.

Times (you can’t pick a time – it is rotated around)

1st session 6.15pm to 7.00pm

2nd session 7.00pm to 7.45pm

3rd session 7.45pm to 8.30pm

If you want to be part of pennant night please email Trish @: wsmith.rsmith@gmail.com

NOTE: While we encourage you to play all 10 rounds, this competition is designed to be flexible to suit work, home and social life. To cut down on the time spent working out draws your name will automatically go into the draw each week unless you let me know by Tuesday 5pm by email that you are unavailable. Point to remember – time and effort goes into producing a draw that suits everyone for this social night so if you don’t turn up on the night (baring an emergency) then you are letting down all the other people in your time slot.

Cheers Trish

Court Cleaning – We need your help.

Court cleaning is underway again. We are aiming to have the court walls cleaned up for the Opening Tournament on Fri 17 March.

Of course, as usual we require people to help - if you can help for one or more session/s that would be great. Each session is 2 hours and were hoping the schedule following will get the job done.

Please call either Craig Anderson 0224 958 950 or Phil Tough 0274 314 791 to confirm time/day etc.

Schedule

  • Thurs 9/3 9.30am -11.30am & 1.30pm - 3.30pm

  • Fri 10/3 9.30am -11.30am & 1.30pm - 3.30pm

  • Sat 11/3 10.00am -11.30am

  • Sun 12/3 10.00am -11.30am & 1.30pm – 3.30pm

What to Bring

  • 1 or 2 ice cream containers

  • a medium size rags

  • an old towel

  • a smile

What we will be cleaning the wall with:

We will provide the 'magic sponge' things. Please don't be offended if we show you how to use these economically. The method is using a clean water container, and a dirty water container, rub the marks off the wall, use your wet rag to wash the black off , and vaguely dry the wall with your towel. Cool.

Looking forward to hearing from you
